Say it with me, everyone:“Sexual orientation” refers to which gender(s) you are attracted to.
“Demi” is not a gender. The “-sexual” in the sexual orientation names refers to which gender(s) you are attracted to, not to actually feeling sexual attraction.
Sexual orientation has nothing to do with when or how often you feel sexual attraction. It only has to do with which gender(s) you are attracted to.
That is why “demisexual” is not a sexual orientation.
yes thank you. This is why I cannot introduce myself as demi, because it’s an improper word. We need a new one.
Are you fucking serious. No, we really do not. The words that already exist are fine, we do not need another new word.
Like the first post said, sexuality is about what gender you’d have a sexual attraction to. As a girl, if it’s boys? Hetero. Girls? Homo. Both? Bi. No sexual attraction? Asexual. These words are perfectly fine and we don’t need any extra ones.
Whether you want to have sex every day, only every now and then, hardly ever, only with someone you love or with the guy from the bar you just met- this has nothing to do with what gender you’re attracted to. It’s how you express your sexuality more like it, not a sexuality in its own.
no dude for the most part I agree with you, there’s too many words. But let’s be honest, tumblr kids are going to use all these queerplatonic queersexual transqueer words anyway, better to have ones that are actually accurate.
The definition for demi isn’t a sexuality or really even a prefernce or anything- but it’s still kind of a thing. The people who say stuff like “I’m demi because I can’t be attracted to anyone unless I’ve been dating them for a year” are bullshitting and don’t understand what they’re talking about. That’s normalfagging hardcore.
All I’m saying is that I, specifically, suffer no attraction to either sex, no drive or preference outside of the one single person I find myself attracted to. All the tell tale signs of asexuality show up in my life, I’m not attracted to gender or sex specifically at all. I’m not pulling out that ridiculous word for fucking ‘attracted ONLY to intelligence and personality lol <3’ because it’s bullshit, all I’m saying is that outside of one exception, I’m asexual. But like you said, designated other is male, so for all purposes I tell people I’m straight, because, whoop, picked a male partner.
All I’m saying is for categorical purposes I personally think the word demisexual needs to be replaced just for the purpose of being innacurate.
